Conversational Ball Game

A Western-style conversation between two people is like a game of tennis. If I introduce a topic, a conversational ball, I expect you to hit it back. Even if you agree with me, I expect you to add something – make a comment, give another example, or carry the idea further.But I don’t expect you to agree all the time. I am just as happy if you question me, challenge me, or disagree with me. Whether you agree or disagree, your response will allow to me to continue. If there are more than two people in the conversation, it is like volleyball. Everyone does hit best to keep the ball going, and no one person has the ball for very long.
